Again, this is Congressman ████████████ and welcome to my telephone town hall meeting on mining, which is now in progress. Thank you. Please hold while we connect you to your Access Live event. This Access Live event is currently in progress. Please note that this call may be monitored, recorded or rebroadcast in the State of █████████. Benefits from Mining Reminder to press Star three to Ask a Question the importance of mine legislation reaches far beyond our state today. Foreign adversaries such as China doubt dominate the global supply chains for many of the critical minerals that power modern technology, advanced manufacturing and national defense systems. This dependence on China creates a significant economic and national security vulnerability. Imagine the crisis we would face should China suddenly decide to withhold these resources to the █████████████ or other parts of the world. By responsibly developing the resources within the Duluth complex, we can reduce reliance on foreign adversarial nations like China and Russia who do not have our best interests at heart and ensure the materials essential to our future are produced right here in ███████. Another reminder to press Star three to ask a question. Despite all the positives that will result from the reversal of █████'s mineral withdrawal, anti mining groups have spent a lot of money spreading misinformation on this new law. So let me clear clear a few things up. First, there will be no mining in the Boundary Waters or its buffer zone. Mining has been banned in the boundary waters since ████, when the area's wilderness designation was signed into law. And Minnesota's strict environmental laws and standards will continue to protect water quality. And I want to make this clear. My law does nothing to change the area's wilderness designation and there will be no mining in the Boundary Waters. Second, my law does not automatically greenlight any proposed mining project. President █████'s mining ban unilaterally banned all mining, preventing any project from competing on its own merits. Mylaw simply restores Minnesota's authority to evaluate proposed mining projects. Any proposed project will still have to go through a rigorous state and federal permitting and environmental review process. Third, modern copper nickel mining can be done safely. Just look at the Rainy River Mine in ███████ for the past decade, this mine has been operating in the same watershed as the proposed projects in █████████ and there have been zero environmental issues and it utilizes some of the same state of the art technology and environmental best practices that proposed mines in our district will use and.
