Hi, this is your congressman, ████████████ at ████████████. I'm holding a telephone town hall right now to talk about the issues that matter most to you. To ask a question, press star three at any time during the call and just stay on the line. The call will begin. Just a minute. Please hold while we connect you to your Access Live event. This Access Live event is currently in progress. Please note that this call may be monitored, recorded or rebroadcast. Address some issues around border pollution and bring in our guest, ████████████. And then after that, we can spend the rest of the time on questions about what's on your mind. So first, let's talk about costs. President █████ campaigned on a promise to lower costs on day one. But for most people, it seems like life has only gotten more expensive. In ██████████ since █████ took office. Basic living expenses have increased $███████ as of May this year. So from when he took office to May, and in our district, ██████████, ██ families are paying $███████ more for groceries, $███ more dollars for electricity. There are a lot of number of reasons for the increased costs. Let me go through a few of them. First, the unconstitutional war of choice in ████. I say unconstitutional because the President went to war without the legal approval needed from Congress under Article 1 of the Constitution. And I say war of choice because despite the angry rhetoric from Iranian leaders, who are certainly not our friends, no one would suggest that that country was not a direct threat to us. And █████ chose to go to war. It's clear that diplomacy and economic pressure were the better way to push back on nuclear weapon development, on ballistic missiles and funding terrorism. In fact, President █████ had intelligence before he launched that if we attacked ████, they might close the Strait of Hormuz, which transports ██% of the world oil and natural gas supply. It is the major global route for oil. █████ thought he was smarter than our intel community. He ignored the advice. And indeed, Iran closed the strait, which it didn't really know before it got attacked that it had the power to do. Now it does know that, and that's to our disadvantage. The wars cost billions of dollars in taxpayer money. It's lost regional stability, and it's cost the lives of 17Americans. And since the conflict started over ███ days ago, we voted in the House. I voted to pass a War Powers Resolution five times that would limit the President's ability to initiate or escalate military actions without congressional approval. The Senate has now passed a War Powers Resolution like that. And we're going to continue to work to make sure that that's law and we can rein this back in. But the war has been a big problem for costs. Second, I want to talk about the █████ tariffs. Last week, the administration imposed a new round of tariffs on over ██ countries. He's had these tariffs over the course of time. In addition to the disaster that they've been in terms of keeping good relations with our allies, they've essentially functioned as taxes on people. They've increased the prices of everyday household goods like cleaning supplies, clothing, furnishings, and actually have added an estimated $███████ annually to household costs in █████████. We're a region that depend on trade innovation. Our economy is particularly sensitive to █████'s tariffs. Thankfully, both the Supreme Court and the US Court of International Trade have ruled that many of the ██████ are illegal because he needs approval from Congress and he didn't get it. And shortly after these rulings, US Customs reported the issuance of over $██ billion in tariff refunds. But he's not quitting. Just today, he asked the Supreme Court for permission to.
