Good evening, residents of the great city of Ansonia. This is Mayor David Cassetti calling to clarify the upcoming budget process. The first public hearing in next year's proposed city budget will take place this Monday night, April 21st at 6:30pm the hearing will take place remotely on Zoom with access information now online@cityofansonia.com along with a copy of the proposed budget for your review. The current budget proposal represents a 1.8% spending increase on the city side and a 5% plus increase on our schools. Altogether, this amounts to a proposed 3.1 mil increase on property taxes, offset by a 2.5 mil decrease on the motor vehicle tax rate. Now, thanks to a law passed by my administration, you, the residents of Ansonia, will have the final say on the proposed budget. Mark your calendars for Friday, April 25, when it will be holding a public referendum on both the city and the Board of Education budgets. Voting will take place from 6am until 8pm at the Ansonia Armory. So to recap, a public hearing on a budget Monday the 21st, followed by a referendum on the city and Board of Education budgets on Friday the 25th.
