How to Block Spam Texts
August 1, 2025Fake "Indeed Recruiters" Are Targeting Job Seekers — Here’s How the Scam Works
$500 a day for just 30 minutes of work? Sounds like a dream job. Unfortunately, it’s a dream that turns into a nightmare for thousands of job seekers every month.
In July 2025. alone, the Nomorobo honeypot flagged more than 6,000 text messages impersonating the online job placement giant Indeed. These messages promise big money, flexible hours, and same-day payouts — but in reality, they’re a fast track to identity theft and financial loss.
How the Scam Hooks You
It starts with a text like this:
“Hello! We’re the Indeed Recruitment Team. We currently have a remote job opportunity available: Work just 30 to 60 minutes a day. Earn $100 to $500 daily, with same-day payouts. Free training provided. Must be 22 years or older. If you’re interested, send a message to: 1-631-365-0461 to get the full job details.”
Let’s break down the red flags:
Too good to be true pay – $100–$500 for less than an hour’s work is a fantasy in most legitimate industries.
No job description – They’re vague about what you’ll actually be doing.
Spoofing a trusted brand – Indeed has stated clearly: “Indeed never contacts job seekers to offer employment via any communication platform.”
If you respond, the scammers often send you a “survey” that asks for your name, date of birth, Social Security number, and sometimes even credit card information for a so-called “starter kit” or “training materials.”
The Real Goal: Your Personal Data
Once scammers have your information, they can:
-
Steal your identity and open accounts in your name
-
Drain your bank account
-
Sell your data on the dark web
And unlike a bad job, you can’t just “quit” once your information is out there.

How to Protect Yourself from Fake Job Offers
Slow down and research. Before replying, search the company name plus “scam” or “complaint.”
Never pay to get hired. Legitimate employers do not charge you for training or equipment.
Trust your gut. If the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Report it. Forward scam texts to 7726 (SPAM) to alert your carrier.
Fraud Fighter Pro Tip
When it comes to robocalls, scam texts, or suspicious job offers, your best defense is skepticism. A real job will have a real interview, real job duties, and real pay — not an unbelievable offer from a random text.
