Failed to extend the Affordable Care act tax credits that then help that keep health insurance premiums affordable for working families in Florida's 20th congressional district, over ██% of our neighbors rely on these ACA tax credits to afford health insurance. If these tax credits expire, insurance premiums would skyrocket by an average of ███%, an unbearable burden for so many families already struggling to make ends meet. This is not the first time that the Republican leadership has put our community at risk and has failed to negotiate with Democrats. To prevent a shutdown and to prevent prevent our families from actually facing harm, this administration unlawfully terminated ███ million national institutions of Health grants that fund critical research into Alzheimer's disease, women's health, cancer and diabetes. They also froze over ███ million in school based mental health grants and canceled ███ million for the emergency Food Assistance Program programs that many in our district depend and rely on. This is a direct attack on Congress's power of the purse and it is blatantly illegal. Democrats have put forward a short term funding bill that does the right thing. It permanently extends the ACA tax credit, repeals the harmful Medicaid and ACA cuts enacting under the so called Big Ugly bill law and it prevents the administration from withholding funding lawfully appropriated by Congress. If this Republican shutdown continues without resolution, federal workers in ███████'s 20th district risk being furloughed or forced to work without pay. This affects teachers, first responders, postal workers and so many others who serve our community every single day. By joining this call tonight, you took an important step in standing up for yourself, your family and your district. You have the facts, you have the understanding and you know what's at stake. Together we are stronger moving forward. I will continue to fight every day in Congress to protect your health care, secure your jobs, and demand the government reopen.
