- Transcript Hello, this is your congressman Adam Smith at 425-793-5180 I am holding a telephone town hall right now to answer your questions and give you an update on what's happening in Congress and around the 9th district. You'll be able to ask a question by pressing three at any time during the call. Just stay on the line. The call will begin momentarily. Please hold while we connect you to your access live event. This access live event is currently in progress. Please note that this call may be monitored, recorded, or rebroadcast. Diplomacy, you know, Middle East, Ukraine, everywhere. It is my belief we cannot fight everyone everywhere, all at once. And I am worried about some of the rhetoric, particularly the anti China rhetoric that lays this out as some sort of us or them struggle. I don't believe that it is that. I think that is a very dangerous approach. I am certainly mindful of the challenges that all of these places in the world, including Iran, I think I neglected to mention them, the challenges that they present. But it isn't primarily about fighting. It's about figuring out how do we navigate that world, build partnerships and alliances, and use diplomacy to get to a more peaceful place. And certainly something that I'm going to be focused and working on. Two quick things, specific places. I think it was crucial that we got the assistance to Ukraine that we got to them. Putin and Russia do not appear to be inclined to stop. In order to get them to the table and to stop the war, Ukraine has to be able to defend itself. They have to be able to convince Putin that he cannot achieve his ultimate goal of taking all of Ukraine. That's what will hopefully force him to the table and force a peace agreement. I do think that the US should be willing to negotiate as, you know, as openly and aggressively as possible in that effort. In the Middle east, the conflict between Israel and the power.
