Average family paid $███ more overall for their groceries. Washington cost for all of us are increasing. They're increasing for individual families, but they're also increasing for local governments. For small businesses, for folks who are trying to meet the needs of our community and grow our economy. It just so happens that this week we had county commissioners and county council members from all across the country in town for a conference. And we have a neighbor who joined us, ██████████████, who is a Thurston county commissioner but works in the 6 congressional district as Aberdeen firefighter. █████ and I have worked together on fire issues, emergency management, and so much more. And so I thought we'd kick it off with a question for you, █████, that we have heard from many neighbors. Dhs is shut down. Because the Department of Homeland Security is failing at supporting our communities as it relates to immigration enforcement. It relates to fema. You are on the front lines both in your professional job. And in your work as a county commissioner. In meeting people's emergency needs. What have you seen as the impacts from the chaos of this administration? And repealing of homeland security grants and uncertainty of funding. How is it affecting real people in our community? It's impossible to plan for anything without predictability. And when it comes to things like FEMA funding, we don't know what's required of us. The requirements are constantly changing, and it's more of a coercive model to give certain outcomes. When Congress appropriates or creates a program, it's legally mandated. That thing happens. and earlier this year the bric program was eliminated just arbitrarily and illegally a federal judge said no this is a congressional program that has to be maintained i sit on the shayla's basin flood authority it is a multi region group that plans for strategic flood mitigation and a major part of our plan is the north shore levy project that is right in your district and that money was just swept out from under all of us and even though the federal administration was founded to have done that illegally there's now really no way to administer it so there's complete
