Tax cuts that were disproportionately benefiting people at the top in very wealthy individuals and corporations. It had smaller tax cuts for some other families and some families ended up actually paying more in taxes. But when you put all of those pieces together, the tax cuts, the cuts to healthcare and food assistance people at the bottom ended up paying more either in higher costs or higher taxes. And people at the very top are paying less. Now, that is not what America voted for. It's not what people expected. I suspect it's not what you were hoping for when this president took office. It's certainly not what he promised. Now fast forward to today. This spring Congress is coming back for a second round of big budget changes. Republicans in Congress are currently planning to do at least two additional budget bills. The specific policies are somewhat in flux, but we have some information about what they will be. We do know what's not in the bills. There are nothing in the bills is going to make life easier for working people. They're not considering repairing what they broke in healthcare. They're not reinstating any cuts to Medicaid or reinstating tax credits for health insurance, but they are considering more cuts, more tax cuts and money to go to partisan priorities, not to make people's lives easier. The first bill that has already begun moving, it is actually already moving in Congress right now. Includes hundreds, sorry tens of billions of dollars for immigration and customs enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security that is completely unpaid for. But with borrowing entirely, but not a single penny is going to pay for lower costs, lower utility bills or anything like that to make life more affordable. Instead, it's going exclusively to the Department of Homeland Security. The follow-up bill that they are considering is likely to include more tax cuts for the rich in corporations. It hasn't been decided yet, but that's what people have been floating. It could include hundreds of billions of dollars for the war in ████ and again more cuts to health care to help pay for all this or just putting it on the credit card, but not a single penny to go to families or communities who are struggling.
