Thank you very much, █████, and thank you to those of you who are joining us. I apologize that this is remote and not in person, but I'm still in ████████████████ back at work. And we are now over just over a year into my first term as a member of Congress. And obviously. This has been a very, very challenging year in a lot of different ways. And we've been inundated with more bad news over the last few days, including just more tax on our rule of law. More disturbing developments, including just a few hours ago, learning about yet another shooting by ICE or DHS or CBP agents of what appear to be potentially civilians who are posing no threat. This is following, of course, the murder, and I say that deliberately because I watched the video, and I do not think that anyone watching that could determine that this was accidental or that it was self defense. It was a premeditated murder by an ICE agent of a woman who was a ████ citizen, a mother of three. And for those of you who don't know me, I spent my career fighting for the rule of law. My very first job as a lawyer, I was at the securities and Exchange Commission, prosecuting corporate fraud, cracking down on those who would bankrupt or misuse our capital markets for their own gain. I went on to become a law professor at UC Irvine. As someone who is new to Congress. This has been a challenging, challenging year. I, of course, served one term, four years in the state Senate. In the state senate, I focused on issues like advancing clean energy, protecting our precious open spaces, defending women's reproductive rights, trying to prevent gun violence. Promoting small businesses. And that was what I was hoping to be working on in Congress. Those are really important issues to me. I think to a lot of you as well. But over the past year, which I think of, as long as you, my life, I have focused almost exclusively on standing up for the rule of law, our constitution, standing up against corruption.
