America's adversaries are watching. Any lapse in our defense capabilities here at home creates an opportunity. I have voted to fund DHS Every time the bill has come to the floor. Because protecting the American people should never be a partisan issue. Unfortunately, Congressional Democrats have chosen a different path. Instead of restoring funding for the agency tasked with defending the homeland, they are doubling down and prolonging a shutdown that weakens our national security. Why? To protect the legals. House Minority Leader ███████████████ specifically stated, we want an explicit prohibition that ICE can now go nowhere near any polling sites in the ████████████████████████. It's one of our demands. We're not going to bend on it. Truly unbelievable. Why would ICE need to be kept away from polling sites if illegal aliens are not voting in our elections? I think Minority Leader ███████'s statement speaks for itself about where congressional Democrats priorities lie and why they are so against the Save America act legislation that would require voter ID in federal elections. This shutdown could end immediately if congressional Democrats joined congressional Republicans to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security. I also want to take a moment to expand on the discussion about the Save America Act. Recently, President █████ said the untruth social that he will not sign any other bills into law until the SAVE act is sent to his desk. I completely understand where the president is coming from and why he's so frustrated. Last month, the House of Representatives passed the Save America Act. It is now pending in the Senate. The right to vote in federal elections should be. Exclusively to American citizens. Despite a ban on noncitizens voting in federal elections, states continue to find noncitizens on their voter rolls due to inadequate protections and guidance from the federal government. Voter ID is something I have always supported and I was proud to vote for the SAVAC twice previously. To Save America act builds on that effort by requiring proof of citizenship to register and a valid government issued photo ID to vote in federal elections. According to a Pew Research Center, ██% of Americans support requiring government issued photo ID to vote. You need an ID to drive board a plane, open a bank account and much more.
