  • Transcript Hi, this is Congresswoman Grace Meng at 718-358-6364. I'm calling to invite you to a live telephone town hall I'm hosting right now. To join, just stay on the line. I'll be sharing an update on what's happening in Washington and take questions. Again, to participate, please stay on the line. To ask a question, press star three. The call will begin momentarily. Please hold while we connect you to your Access Live event. This Access Live event is currently in progress. Please note that this call may be monitored, recorded or rebroadcast process that the congresswoman is very much involved in. And we're at a disadvantage, right, given who controls the Congress right now, really has great potential to harm us. And if the state gets harmed, those cutbacks get passed along to local governments and to individual constituents, constituencies as well. The uncertainty is made more problematic because they also keep changing their minds on things. We just put out a report today on New York City metro area, the impact of imports and exports, particularly the context of the tariff conversation. And you saw already big talk about all these tariffs. And then he's already started to pull back, at least as far as the auto industry, some of what he'd been saying at least for 30 days. It is, you know, I every five minutes they seem to have a different perspective on what, on what they're going to do. So it makes our job to anticipate, to plan, to cushion in terms of financial impact. It makes it very, very difficult. So that again, I'll underline the word uncertainty. I think what we're all having to deal with is the fact that we're in uncharted territory. Thankfully, with the great work of our attorney general, working in coalition with attorney generals across the country, some of this at least has been slowed down. Obviously, the concern is, as some of this goes through the courts, what will ultimately happen. I guess there was a slight victory today on one case that was before the supreme court in a 5, 4 decision on foreign aid. But, you know, who knows what's going to happen ultimately. So what we will try to do is keep New Yorkers informed about the economic consequences of some of these policies, certainly the fiscal impact in terms of the state budget. But we're just trying to keep up with the news of the day because it does seem to change every moment. None of the news, though, seems to be very good. I'll just mention to wrap up, obviously I'm concerned since I manage the state pension fund, I'm concerned for the New York City funds, pension funds, as well. The market volatility that all of this uncertainty has created makes it very difficult for us from an investment perspective to keep our plans well funded. Challenge for me with the state fund is that we value our fund on March 31st, so we're just.
