  • Transcript Hello, this is Congresswoman Maxine Dexter at 503-231-2300. I am calling to invite you to a live telephone town hall I'm hosting right now. To join, just stay on the line. I will share an update from DC Take your questions and speak about how Congress can fight back against President Trump's policies. Again, to participate, stay on the line. To ask a question, press star three. The call will begin momentarily. Please hold while we connect you to your Access Live event. This Access Live event is currently in progress. Please note that this call may be monitored, recorded or rebroadcast. 100 days of destruction. He's unleashed an all out assault on our rights, our planet and our communities. From gutting the services our community relies on to targeting our most vulnerable neighbors. And I recognize that it can be exhausting to stay engaged. But let me be clear. It has also been 100 days of courage shown by you and our community. It has been 100 days of our community rising up, speaking out, and standing firm on our shared values. We are not powerless. We are organized. We are energized, and we are fighting back. They only win if we give up. And I want you to know I am not giving up. I am using every tool at my disposal to safeguard our values in Congress. I am working every day on the Veterans Affairs Committee and on the House Natural Resources Committee and on natural resources. I am the top Democrat on the Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee where I use every combat opportunity possible to fight Trump's polluters. And their first agenda is to do harm. And my first agenda is to protect Oregon's environment. But beyond legislation, I'm also supporting litigation, court action. That's checking Trump. I've signed on to six amicus briefs, including one that was just filed with the Supreme Court, to make my voice, your voice, heard as a member of Congress. But far and away, our most powerful tool is public pressure. And I need you to stay loud. And I hope you all heard Cory Booker. He said it many times and I will continue to say it with him. The power of the people is greater than the people in power. And it's absolutely true. It's because your input, your calls, your letters that I traveled to El Salvador to demand that Trump release Kilmar Abrego Garcia from the prison down in El Salvador. And he must have due process and it must be upheld. For all I know that the bedrock of our democracy is due process. And I could not and will not stand by while Trump is literally disappearing people. Our trip was to keep the pressure up on the Trump administration to make sure that it doesn't get buried in the press cycle and to demand action. But I can only do this work if I keep hearing from you, and that's why I'm really excited to take your questions and hear your perspectives tonight. As Peter said, you can ask questions by Hitting Star three. If you're not already subscribed to my newsletter, please press star6 and a member of my team will take down your email and get you signed up. You can also visit my.
