- Transcript Hi, this is Attorney general austin knutson. I'm calling to invite you to our teletown hall, taking place in just a few moments to be added to our do not call list, please press nine. Now. We'll be discussing issues important to you and your family. Please just stay on the line and you'll be automatically connected. Please note that this call may be monitored, recorded or rebroadcast. But. We do have a lot of scams in Montana. I kind of break it down into two. Different classifications, which is just useful for me. Scams are those people that you don't know who are trying to figure out a way. To invagle their way into your life. Get you to commit to them so they can grab your money. And those are the Internet scams the romance scams, the government impersonator scams, and we see those all the time. And typically they're out of state actors, maybe even foreign actors, and they're really difficult to come to grips with because they're distant. But we also have our homegrown. Variety here in Montana and a good deal of what we do. Is prosecute financial abuse. Neglect and exploitation. And one of the things we succeeded in doing this last legislature, I believe, is a great improvement in Montana law by moving all of those crimes from the hinterlands of the code and depositing them where they should have been all along, right in the criminal code. And their prosecutors and investigators and anyone researching can find those crimes. And they were going to be treated with. The respect. And. The dignity they should have had all along. Before attorney general Knuts and worked on House Bill 532 last year. Elder abuse wasn't defined as a serious crime. Before that legislation. Elder. Sexual abuse wasn't a sexual crime. It is now. And now we have the tools. To tackle it. Thanks for that, Mike. Again. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the work you do daily to address. Elder abuse and prosecute these folks. This is clearly an issue. You care deeply about. So, folks, I just want to remind you, this is Montana attorney general Austin. Knutson. We're talking about elder justice. If you've got any questions for. Myself or for our elder justice prosecutor, Mike Fanning. Go ahead and dial star three. We'll get you in the queue and you can ask your question. So I want to take a few minutes and talk about the warning signs of neglect. These are signs that we see in some of our elder abuse victims. Look for a lack of basic hygiene. A lack of adequate food. Medical aids. If they're not able to get their glasses, a walker, their false teeth, maybe. Hearing aid medications. Maybe it's a person with dementia who's being left unsupervised. Or a bedbound person left without care. I mean, just terrible, terrible things, but. There are also some less obvious warning signs. Withdrawal or social isolation in someone who previously was engaged or enjoyed social company. That withdrawal might indicate physical or sexual or even emotional abuse. Another sign of financial abuse is isolation, for example. Preventing the victim from regular contact with family, friends, church groups, neighbors. Oftentimes. An exploiter will keep their victim from receiving any support. or outside advice from others who might normally step in and stop

I an on the do not call list, but it hasn't stopped the robos. Why don't you turn these people in to the do not call list and reap the fines for yourself??? If you need my permission, you have it.

You have no idea the amount of calls we used to get. The "do not call" list was a waste of time. Then I heard about Nomorobo. It has been outstanding. I counted 17 calls in a 5 day period. We get one ring, then nothing! Keep up the good work. ( it's a shame you can't get rid of the political calls) never met anyone who changed their vote after an annoying phone call.

Great Service! Thanks! Out of six calls on my phone last Wednesday four were blocked by you folks. I checked them out on Google and they were all scammers.
