Hi, this is your congressman, ████████████, at ████████████. I am calling to invite you to a live telephone town hall that I'm hosting right now. To join, just stay on the line. I will discuss the horrific shootings in ███████████ and how I am working to hold ICE and Secretary ████ accountable. You'll be able to ask a question by pressing Star three at any time during the call. Just stay on the line. The call will begin momentarily. Please hold while we connect you to your Access Live event. This Access Live event is currently in progress. Please note that this call may be monitored, recorded, or rebroadcast. Several questions in the queue, so let's go. I'm looking forward to further questions. As a reminder, it's on immigration and my visit last week to ███████████, so focus your questions there and press Star three anytime you would like to submit a question tonight. Thank you, Congressman. And for those of you just joining us once again, if you'd like to ask a question live, please press Star three. If you'd like to sign up for the congressman's newsletter, please press star6. Our first question comes from █████ from Lynn, who submitted a question online. And █████ asks. I've been concerned about the additional funding in the DHS funding bill for ice. What? Did you vote on the government funding bill today? All right, █████, how did I vote? I voted no. I voted no on the funding package that included DHS funding, Department of Homeland Security funding for ice. We need to hold DHS and Secretary ████ accountable. We need to hold ICE accountable. And in Congress, that means using the leverage which we have, which is not much. As Democrats, we're in the minority in both the House and the Senate, but we do have leverage over funding because the margin in the House is so narrow that Republicans often don't have the vote to pass this legislation on their own. We need to put a stop to these abuses by federal authorities. But accountability also shouldn't end there. ICE and CBP officers that break the law need to be prosecuted, something I've been emphasizing for weeks, and I'm glad to hear more Democrats across the country echo that call. We can't proceed like normal when there are masked agents of the state murdering our own citizens just simply for exercising their constitutional rights. So we've got a lot to do, a lot more in Congress to stop it. Thank you, sir. We'll take another online question. This one is submitted by ████████ from █████. He asks, do you think Massachusetts could be targeted like Minnesota has been? And how do we avoid a similar situation. Well, thanks for the question. Sadly, this is a reality and this is a big part of why I went to Minnesota. Not just to understand what's going on on the ground, part of my duties in performing congressional oversight, a lesson I learned back in the Marines. You got to get on the ground to truly understand what's going on, but also because I know this could be coming to █████████████ next. And so we've got to be prepared for one thing. We haven't seen large scale influxes of federal agents. And Border Patrol hasn't set up roving patrols or checkpoints like they have in other parts of the country, at least yet. But █████ and █████████ have made threats to, quote, bring hell to █████████████. They clearly have our blue state in their sights. That's the point here. The point is that they're going after political, they're going after blue states for political retribution. This is not about actually immigration enforcement. I mean, if they really just wanted to get as many undocumented immigrants as possible, they would go to █████ and ███████. So why are they not in █████ and ███████? Very simple. Those are GOP controlled states and this administration is politicizing everything. Let me tell you a little bit more about what I saw when I was in █████████, because beyond the violence and all the bad stuff that's going on, I also saw a well organized response from faith based and community based organizations, much of which stemmed from the aftermath of ████████████. So there are a lot of organizations that organize for those protests. Some of them admitted they made some mistakes in pursuing those protests, but they've learned from that experience.
