In the event, you can press zero on your telephone keypad to ask a question. Hi, I'm hope, and I'm on the line to connect you with the live telephone town hall going on right now. We have keepit local North Dakota, and local parents, educators, farmers and leaders discussing why measure four, the property tax measure, is harmful to public education, safe communities and other public services. In just a moment, I'll transfer you into the main event so you can hear from our featured speakers. Once you're in the event, you can press zero on your telephone keypad to ask a question. Medical subs to assess property taxes that will be on the ballot this November, 40 days from tonight. The legislature has estimated that this measure would cost $3.15 billion. We're going to first hear from Nathan Bursak, who's from southeastern North Dakota. Nathan, I'd try to introduce you, but you've got so many leadership titles and you're involved in so many things. I'd love for you to introduce yourself and then also talk about why are you concerned about measure four and how it will affect your community. Sounds great. Thanks, Chad, and thanks for everybody for joining us this evening. As Chad said, my name is Nathan Burstef. I live in Colfax, North Dakota, which is in Richland county. I'm serving on seven years now on our local school board and going on my 10th year as a Richland county commissioner. I don't know where to begin. The list is lengthy as far as the concerns, but the biggest concern is, Chad, you touched on is what makes North Dakota great. I find what makes North Dakota great is keeping it local. And this measure does exactly the opposite. It removes the local control. And, yeah, does anybody like property taxes when they cut that check every year. But think about where those, those dollars go. They go to your township or your city, your school district, your, your, your county level, and they, they help run the snow plows, the, the law enforcement, the bridges, the roads. And without that, local control will be dictated by bit in Bismarck. And it concerns me greatly. Concerns me. There's no escalator in this bill, so whatever's locked in this year, that's what we'll see for the following years. We know how inflation rolls. What will we do when prices and costs increase? How do we pay the salaries for our folks, cover the cost of the roads, etcetera, you know, in these budgets that are locally controlled, they're not, they're not, they're not made in dim lights and thick smoke in the back room. They're made in the light of day, and they're by your local people. And I think that's what North Dakotans want, and that's what they insist on keeping.
