  • Transcript Hi, this is Senator Pete Ricketts inviting you to my live telephone town hall happening right now. We will connect you shortly to this event where we will discuss issues that are important to you. I am committed to representing Nebraska and I look forward to visiting with you. So please join me in my official telephone town hall by staying on the line. This call was paid for by the office of Senator Pete Ricketts at 202-224-4224. Please hold while we connect you to your Access Live event. This Access Live event is currently in progress. Please note that this call may be monitored, recorded or rebroadcast three times this year. And we are retired on Social Security and was wondering when that would happen. And then also is there sort of a timeline for giving taxes back on the Social Security, you know, the federal take, you know, give those back. So they don't tax federally on Social Security. Yeah, Beth. So a couple things there. One, when it comes to property taxes, the challenge, and I know Governor Pillin is working to work on this or to get those down is the state doesn't collect those. And so a lot of it's about what can we do to encourage local entities from not raising their property taxes. And one of the things that they'll do, for example, is they'll keep your levy the same, but your valuation will go up. And even though they say we didn't raise your levies, you're still paying more in taxes because your valuation went up and because they're multiplying it by the levy. So I encourage you to reach out to Governor Pillin's office to talk about some of the specifics that he's doing with regard to property taxes. I don't have those off the top of my head because I've been focused on what's going on here in Washington, D.C. but I can talk to you about the Social Security Tax Cut Act. You may recall that when I was governor, we were able to phase out the taxes on Social Security, the state income taxes. So you're no longer paying state income tax on your Social Security benefits. However, you are still paying, as you pointed out, their federal income tax, and the president has said he wants to phase those out. I this is something we did in Nebraska. So I've introduced the Social Security check tax cut bill to start the phase out of those taxes on Social Security. What we'll be doing as we go through this reconciliation process I mentioned a little bit earlier, is there will be an overall tax package part of it, and I would expect to see that Social Security Tax Cut act or some form of it of reducing the taxes on Social Security Security to come out of that, because the president has made this a priority. But that work, the work of those committees is ongoing right now and it's probably going to take at least a couple more months before they get all that work done and coordinate it with the House and then the White House. So I would say stay tuned. We're really looking for something that would not be impact for 25 but would probably impact you in 26. But again, not having since we don't have any bills in front of us or anything like that, I can't tell you for sure what that's going to look like. But I would say always feel free to reach out and call our office and get an update on that. We're happy to talk to you. You know, if you want to call our Lincoln office, The number is 402-476-1400. And that's a great way just to kind of get updated on that issue as we know more. But like I said, it's probably going to be at least a couple months, Beth, before we get more information on what that Social Security tax bill will look like. So stay tuned. Thank you, Senator Ricketts, and thank you again, Beth, for that wonderful question from Columbus to Wahoo. Next up, we have Mike from Wahoo, who wants to ask Senator Ricketts a question. Good evening. Mike in Wahoo. You're on live with Senator Ricketts. Yes, I just had a question on the taxes on overtime and Social Security and tips. Just wondering if there's a timeline on any of that. I know you just answered the Social Security, but what about the other. Yep. And I would. So first of all, actually, I just signed on to co sponsor the bill today on reducing the taxes on overtime. And so there's a couple of sponsors of that that I've joined to be able to put that bill into the hopper of tax policies. We want to look at.

Just last week, 8,258 people got Nomorobo protection!

This is a good service. It works! I've had it for nearly a year and it screens most 'robocalls.'

Every one who can should have this technology installed. It works great and in conjunction with our phone system block feature it prevents unwanted calls every day of the year! We have many family members and friends who now have Nomorobo installed.

I have Time Warner Digital Phone and several friends, also TWC Digital Phone subscribers, had a problem calling me. They said my phone would ring once or twice and then hangup. I had to disable Nomorobo. I was very pleased with Nomorobo and would activate again if you could resolve my TWC issue.

For every action there's a reaction, Nomorobocalls!

We love it. I have told all my family and friends about Nomorobo and they love it.

Wow... no longer have to stand up to answer phone at dinner time! and hike up or down stairs to catch an unwanted call.

The greatest thing since sliced bread!

It is an excellent system. I loathe robocalls. Nomorobo has given me great peace of mind!

Nomorobo is an excellent service and worthy of our Editors' Choice award.
