Congresswoman, you are live, and the floor is yours, ma'am. Thank you, █████. Good evening, everyone, and thank you for joining us in this emergency town hall. Many of the residents from ██████████ 12th congressional districts. I've called my offices with concerns about the republican cut to healthcare and the government shutdown. So I'm holding this town hall to hear from you directly and to answer your questions. First, just a little background of how we got here. I said, on the appropriations committee, which handles federal funding. From June through September, the committee passed all twelve funding bills, and they were all terrible. They were divisive, full of giveaways to special interest. And so extreme that Speaker ███████ couldn't even get a majority of Republicans to support them. In the full house. In September. House republicans. Having failed to pass a budget through regular order. Put forward what's called a continuing resolution. Essentially. That's a placeholder to keep funding at current levels while negotiations continue. But there was a catch to this. The Affordable Care act subsidies, which help keep health insurance costs down. And affordable for millions of Americans were not included in that effort. But simply not extending the ACA subsidies now means that health care costs for New Jersey families will drastically increase when you start enrolling in your plan next month.
